Bavaria's CSU kicks off election campaign with bratwurst and local charm
Bavaria’s election campaign kicked off with a sizzle as Markus Söder and mayoral candidate Max Ammon fired up the grill in Fürth. The event, held in Konrad-Adenauer-Anlage, drew crowds eager for bratwurst rolls and a taste of local politics. With laughter and long queues, the mood was lively as the final push before the March 8 vote began in earnest. The campaign launch took a culinary turn as Söder and Ammon served up bratwurst rolls for just €1 each. Visitors lined up for food, campaign chatter, and a chance to mingle with the politicians. All proceeds from the event were donated to Fürth’s Wärmestube, a shelter supporting the city’s homeless.
Söder played to the crowd with light-hearted jabs at neighbouring cities and football rivalries, tapping into local pride. A caricature of the minister-president was also unveiled, marking his previous visit to Fürth and adding a personal touch to the occasion. Between jokes and grilling, Söder highlighted Bavaria’s financial backing for the city, especially after the collapse of the Quelle department store. The event served as a strategic warm-up for the CSU ahead of the upcoming local elections.
The grill event marked the start of the final campaign stretch before the March 8 elections. Funds raised went directly to a homeless shelter, while Söder and Ammon used the platform to connect with voters. The mix of food, humour, and political messaging set the tone for the CSU’s last push in Fürth.
