Political Ash Wednesday
Katharina Schulze: Söder works only for himself - Bavaria's Green leader slams Söder with satire and sharp criticism
Politics as an ego trip and exhaust pipes instead of crucifixes—Green Party parliamentary leader Katharina Schulze mocked Bavarian Minister-President Markus Söder (CSU) at her party's Political Ash Wednesday event.
Schulze accused Söder of a lack of commitment to others, saying, "Markus Söder still only works for Markus Söder—and unfortunately, he does it full-time." Speaking at the Green Party's traditional Ash Wednesday gathering in Landshut, she quipped that the cabinet's agenda in the state parliament often seemed to have just two items: "First: Does this benefit Maggus? And second: What's for lunch afterward?"
She also criticized the CSU's economic policies, saying Söder treated internal combustion engines "like sacred relics" and defended them as if he had invented them himself. "If this keeps up, my friends," she joked, "he'll end up taking down the crucifixes from government offices and hanging up exhaust pipes instead."
