Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov Announces Two-Week Leave
Belgorod Governor Gladkov Takes Leave Amid Health and Border Pressures
Vyacheslav Gladkov, the governor of Russia's Belgorod Region, has announced he will take a two-week leave of absence. He shared the news in his Telegram channel.
The regional head appointed Alexander Lorenz as acting head of the governor's administration. Gladkov noted that his last break was in 2024 and assured that he would continue posting operational updates on social media during his leave.
On April 6, Vedomosti reported, citing sources close to the presidential administration, that Gladkov might resign from his post. The sources suggested his health as a possible reason, while also highlighting the challenging situation in the border region. According to the newspaper's insiders, Gladkov could step down in the near future—before the gubernatorial elections scheduled for September. One version suggests he may take a position as a deputy minister in the federal government.
