Bergisch Gladbach's free democracy series kicks off with civic debates and workshops
Bergisch Gladbach's adult education centre (Volkshochschule) is launching a new series on democracy and civic participation. The events will take place at Haus Buchmühle, with most open to the public at no cost. Organisers aim to boost democratic skills and encourage open discussion among residents. The series kicks off with the 'Heart Evening – Speaking and Being Heard in Uncertain Times' on April 21, 2026. This event carries a €5 entry fee, unlike the rest of the programme. Two days later, a lecture on U.S. democracy will be held, though no specific details about its content have been shared.
The 'Democracy Takes Practice' debate club will meet twice, first on April 22, 2026, and again on May 20, 2026. On May 8, 2026, a talk will explore the EU's joint policies on migration management. The series will wrap up with a workshop titled What Does It Mean to Be on the Right? on June 12, 2026.
All events require advance registration. Organisers have emphasised the importance of public involvement in shaping democratic discussions. The programme offers a mix of debates, lectures, and workshops over two months. Most sessions are free, though one event includes a small fee. Residents interested in attending must sign up in advance to secure their place.
