Berlin bans weapons and knives for S25 Running Event safety

In connection with the "S25 Berlin Running Event" on 19 April 2026, between 7:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Berlin Police have issued a temporary public order decree for the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf to enhance public safety and order.
Pursuant to Section 17(1) of the General Security and Public Order Act (ASOG Bln), in conjunction with Section 1(1) of the Berlin Administrative Procedure Act (VwVfG BE) and Section 35, Sentence 2 of the Administrative Procedure Act (VwVfG) in their respective current versions, the following general decree is issued:
Restriction on the Public Use of Streets and Squares Through a Ban on Carrying Weapons and Knives On 19 April 2026, from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, within a designated area of the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district, the carrying of weapons and knives in public spaces is prohibited.
Designated Area:
North Olympic Square (Olympischer Platz), including sidewalks and the forecourt of the east gate entrance; Rossitter Weg; Rominter Allee from Olympic Square to Hanns-Braun-Straße, including sidewalks.
East Rossitter Platz, continuing south along Rominter Allee to Trakehner Allee, including sidewalks.
South Trakehner Allee to Flatowallee, including sidewalks, then along Flatowallee up to and including the southern entrance/exit of Olympiastadion S-Bahn station and its sidewalks.
West Coubertinplatz and sidewalks up to and including Südtorweg, then north along Guthmuthsweg to Olympic Square.
Definition of Weapons For the purposes of this decree, "weapons" include all items defined under Section 1(2) in conjunction with Section 1 of Annex 1 to Section 1(4) of the German Weapons Act (WaffG), such as: - Firearms - Blank-firing, irritant, and signal weapons - Crossbows and arrow-firing devices - Bladed, thrusting, and stabbing weapons - Specialized knives, including switchblades, gravity knives, push daggers, and butterfly knives
Definition of Knives "Knives" under this decree refer to all types of knives, including those used for everyday purposes, as tools, or for other functions. This includes, for example, kitchen knives, pocketknives, and other utility blades.
"Carrying" is defined as exercising physical control over weapons or knives outside one's home, business premises, or private property. Immediate access is generally not assumed if the item is stored in a locked container or requires more than three manual steps to retrieve.
