Berlin crash leaves four cars wrecked after driver loses control
A serious traffic accident occurred in Berlin's Lichterfelde neighborhood yesterday afternoon, leaving several parked vehicles severely damaged. According to initial findings, a 57-year-old man was driving a car along Potsdamer Straße toward Clayallee at around 4:20 p.m. when he veered off the road to the right and collided with four properly parked cars. The force of the impact sent his vehicle airborne, causing it to flip and land on its roof.
A passing doctor, who happened to be cycling by, along with another witness, immediately provided first aid until Berlin Fire Department emergency responders arrived and took over medical care. The man was rushed to a hospital, where he underwent surgery and was admitted for treatment. Authorities stated that his injuries were not life-threatening at the time of the accident.
Given suspicions that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol, a blood sample was taken at the hospital. His driver's license was confiscated on the scene.
Potsdamer Straße remained closed in the direction of Zehlendorf between Fürstenstraße and Düppelstraße until shortly after 5 p.m. while rescue and recovery operations were underway. The case has since been handed over to the specialized traffic crimes unit of Police Directorate 4 (South) for further investigation.
