Berlin man faces charges after xenophobic attack on police officer at bus stop
A 40-year-old man has been accused of verbally abusing a police officer with xenophobic slurs in Berlin. The confrontation took place at a bus stop in Viktoriapark on Kreuzbergstraße around 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The incident began when a female officer asked the man to lower his music. He had been playing loud tunes with a group at the Viktoriapark bus stop. Instead of complying, he reacted aggressively.
Reports state he held a lit cigarette close to the officer’s face while shouting insults. The man then directed xenophobic slurs at her. Police took him to a station to confirm his identity before releasing him later. The State Protection Division of the State Criminal Police Office has now taken charge of the investigation.
The case will be handled by the State Protection Division. Authorities have not yet announced further charges or actions. The officer involved was not physically injured during the confrontation.
