Man faces hate crime probe after racist attack on BVG guards in Berlin
A 56-year-old man is under investigation after allegedly throwing a glass bottle at BVG security staff in Charlottenburg. The incident took place at Zoologischer Garten U-Bahn station, where police were called just after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The confrontation began when two security guards asked the man to leave the station. He responded with aggression, hurling racist abuse at one of the guards before throwing the bottle. The suspect missed both staff members, but the attack has led to charges of attempted aggravated assault and racially motivated insults.
The case has now been handed over to the LKA’s political and national security unit. Authorities are treating the incident as a serious offence due to the racial slurs and violent behaviour.
The suspect remains under investigation for both the attempted assault and the racist remarks. The LKA’s involvement suggests the case will be closely examined for potential hate crime elements. No injuries were reported during the incident.
