Red-light crash in Berlin leaves two drivers hospitalized after violent collision
A serious traffic collision took place in Berlin’s Reinickendorf district on Tuesday evening. The crash involved a Ford and a Nissan at the intersection of Scharnweberstraße and Eichborndamm. Both drivers required hospital treatment after the impact. The incident began when a 28-year-old man driving a Ford allegedly ran a red light. At the same time, a 48-year-old woman in a Nissan was exiting the A111 highway with a green signal. The two vehicles collided forcefully, sending the Ford onto the sidewalk along Eichborndamm, where it struck a traffic signpost.
Emergency services arrived quickly to assist the injured. The Ford driver suffered a shoulder contusion, while the Nissan driver sustained head injuries and reported neck pain. Both were taken to nearby hospitals for further care.
The intersection remained closed for several hours as rescue teams worked and police documented the scene. Authorities reopened the roads around 8:30 p.m. after completing their initial investigations.
The case has now been transferred to the Police Directorate 1 (North) traffic offense unit. They will examine the circumstances further to determine liability and any potential charges. The collision left two drivers injured and disrupted traffic in Reinickendorf for hours. Investigators are reviewing evidence to clarify how the crash occurred. Updates on the drivers’ conditions and the investigation’s findings are expected in due course.
