Protest Group 'New Generation' Plans Actions in Berlin
Berlin's New Generation kicks off 'Revolution Days' with Reichstag protest dance
BERLIN (dpa/bb) — The protest group New Generation aims to draw attention with a series of public actions in the coming days. The week has been declared "Revolution Days," according to announcements. A spokesperson described the planned protests as "creative, athletic, and artistically designed," though no further details were provided.
On Monday morning, the group staged a "protest dance" on the steps of the Reichstag building, as announced. Three individuals reportedly climbed over a fence in front of the building and demonstrated with orange umbrellas. Police intervened, identifying the participants, a police spokesperson confirmed upon inquiry. The action ended after just a few minutes. Authorities have launched an investigation into the three men for trespassing.
The group has announced a "art protest" for Wednesday and a "revolutionary attempt in the government district" for Thursday on its website.
'New Generation' Succeeds 'Last Generation'
New Generation advocates for greater public participation and social justice. It emerged from the climate activist group Last Generation, which gained notoriety in recent years for its frequent road blockades.
Last Tuesday, an activist—disguised as Economics Minister Katharina Reiche (CDU)—glued herself to a display case in the Bode Museum on Berlin's Museum Island. The museum confirmed that the exhibit was not damaged. The protest targeted the federal government's economic policies.
