Berlin's Walpurgis Night stays calm despite heavy police presence
Berlin’s Walpurgis Night remained mostly peaceful this year. Authorities reported only minor disturbances despite a large police presence. The event has seen a steady drop in violence over recent years. Around 1,800 officers patrolled the city to keep order during the celebrations. Their focus included a left-wing demonstration called Take Back the Night. While a few small scuffles with police occurred, no major incidents were recorded.
Further protests, mainly from left-wing groups, are set for the afternoon and evening of May 1. The decline in violence marks a shift from previous years. With only minor clashes this time, the event passed without significant disruption. Police will remain on alert as more demonstrations are planned for the coming days.
