Bochold’s New Modular Kindergarten Leads the Generations Quarter Development
Essen's city of Bochold is set to prioritize the construction of a new kindergarten in the Generations Quarter. The modular-built facility, planned for Germaniastraße 54, will cater to 85 children across four groups and is expected to be completed before the scheduled sports hall.
Spanning approximately 18 by 25 meters, the kindergarten site will boast a 1,000 square meter playground offering diverse play areas, retreat spaces, and a fresh kitchen. The two-story building will be heated by district heating and feature a green roof with photovoltaic panels, promoting sustainability.
Parking will be accommodated on the nearby Jahnstraße lot, with six bike spaces at the entrance. The kindergarten's modular construction promises lower material waste, precise manufacturing, and faster assembly, with minimal weather influence. This method has also helped keep project costs around 4.35 million euros, under the initial budget of 5.7 million.
The Committee for Urban Development, Planning, and Construction has recommended the construction of this sustainable kindergarten, which is expected to be the first project completed in the Generations Quarter, followed by the sports hall and other residential developments.
