CDU urges coalition to cut spending and prioritize results over popularity

A senior member of the CDU has called for stronger action within the coalition government. He stressed the need to refocus on delivering results rather than chasing public approval. His comments come as the party reflects on its early achievements and current challenges. The politician acknowledged that his party holds the main responsibility for keeping the government stable. He pointed to the early months of the coalition, when significant progress was made. Now, he wants that momentum regained.

He criticised excessive spending and urged cuts across all ministries. In particular, he called on Vice Chancellor Lars Klingbeil (SPD) to take a firmer stance on reducing expenses. The re-election of Jens Spahn (CDU) was cited as proof that the faction values stability over short-term popularity.

Instead of public disputes, he emphasised the importance of concrete outcomes. Poll numbers, he argued, matter less than the final results achieved by the government. His focus remains on completing projects rather than simply voicing opinions. The CDU figure’s remarks highlight a push for stricter financial discipline and renewed efficiency. He insists that cutting wasteful spending and delivering on promises will secure long-term success. The call to action targets both coalition partners and internal party discipline.
