Chaotic night in Lower Saxony leaves motorcyclist injured and axe attacker arrested
A series of unrelated incidents unfolded across Lower Saxony overnight, leaving one motorcyclist severely injured and a man in custody after an axe attack. Police are also investigating a suspicious fire and a case of criminal damage in the region.
In Großheide, a 30-year-old motorcyclist crashed after losing control of his bike. The accident happened when he veered off the road and landed in a ditch. Emergency services rushed him to hospital with serious injuries. Investigators are now checking whether alcohol or drugs played a role.
In Aurich, a 58-year-old man used an axe to smash the entrance door of an apartment building. When police arrived, he turned the weapon on them. Officers took him into custody after he dropped the axe. He was later transferred to a hospital for evaluation. Meanwhile, in Wiesmoor, a wooden bench caught fire, spreading flames to the wall of a nearby house. One resident was treated for smoke inhalation. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation. Separately, unknown offenders damaged a silver Peugeot in Aurich by smashing its side window. The incident occurred sometime between 6:00 PM on Wednesday and 9:20 AM on Thursday.
The motorcyclist remains in hospital with severe injuries, while the man involved in the axe attack is also receiving medical attention. Authorities continue to examine the fire’s origin and the circumstances behind the car vandalism. No further details have been released at this time.
