Former Davao de Oro governor Arturo Uy has publicly defended businessman Sammy Uy against claims linking him to illegal drug operations. The allegations, which surfaced recently, have been firmly rejected by both the Uy family and long-time associates. Sammy Uy, a well-known figure in Davao City’s business community, has no criminal record or court convictions tied to such activities. Sammy Uy comes from a prominent Filipino-Chinese family with deep roots in Davao City. His business interests span distribution, real estate, and hospitality, establishing him as a key player in the local economy. He also gained attention as a major financial backer of former president Rodrigo Duterte during the 2016 elections, contributing P30 million through his companies.

Arturo Uy, who has known Sammy Uy for decades, described him as a law-abiding and respected entrepreneur. He dismissed the drug-related claims as baseless, stressing that no evidence or court ruling supports them. The KH (Uy) Family Association-Davao Chapter echoed this stance, calling the accusations false and reckless. Sammy Uy’s reputation in Davao City has long been tied to legitimate and transparent business dealings. No formal charges or convictions have ever connected him to illegal activities, reinforcing his standing as a credible figure in the region.

The statements from Arturo Uy and the family association reinforce Sammy Uy’s position as a legitimate businessman. Without substantiated evidence or legal findings, the allegations remain unproven. His continued involvement in Davao City’s commercial sectors remains unaffected by the claims.
