Dr. Jörg Brixner, former Raiffeisen leader and German cooperative pioneer, dies at 91
The German Raiffeisen Association (DRV) has lost a prominent figure with the passing of Dr. Jörg Brixner. The 91-year-old former president, who led the association for eight years, was remembered for his significant contributions to the cooperative agricultural and food industry in Germany.
Dr. Brixner, who passed away on August 31, dedicated 37 years of his career to the Raiffeisen organization. He began his journey at the Wuerttembergische Landwirtschaftliche Zentralgenossenschaft (WLZ), where he served for 22 years.
His most notable achievement was his crucial role in integrating eastern German cooperatives into the Raiffeisen organization following reunification. DRV President Franz-Josef Holzenkamp praised him as a prominent figure who significantly shaped the industry. Dr. Brixner's commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of cooperatives and promoting their market and customer orientation was also highlighted.
During his tenure at the DRV, he aligned the cooperative union with changing competitive conditions on European markets. His leadership and dedication were recognized with prestigious awards, including the Professor Niklas Medal in Gold and the German Raiffeisen Medal.
The DRV thanked Dr. Brixner for his life's work and vowed to keep his memory alive. His passing is a significant loss to the cooperative movement, but his legacy continues to inspire and guide the industry.
