Driver caught with blood alcohol level of 2.39 per mille in Germany

Police in Bad Salzungen stopped a driver in the early hours of February 7, 2026. The incident took place on Hersfelder Straße in Vacha at around 2:00 a.m., leading to serious legal consequences for the motorist. Officers pulled over the vehicle during a routine check. Suspecting alcohol consumption, they administered a breathalyzer test. The result showed a blood alcohol level of 2.39 per mille—far above the legal limit.

The driver was immediately banned from continuing their journey. Authorities then transported them to Bad Salzungen Hospital, where a blood sample was taken for further analysis.

Due to the extreme intoxication, the driver now faces criminal charges under German traffic law. The case will proceed through the legal system, with potential penalties including fines, licence suspension, or imprisonment. The breathalyzer reading and blood sample will serve as key evidence in the prosecution.
