Drunk man arrested after smashing into Nuremberg lottery shop at subway station

A heavily intoxicated man was arrested after breaking into a lottery shop in Nuremberg’s Röthenbach subway station. The incident took place on February 7, 2026, with police detaining the suspect shortly after the crime. Authorities have since launched an investigation into the forced entry and theft. The 33-year-old suspect was spotted by a VAG employee while attempting to break into the shop. He initially fled but was quickly apprehended by police near the scene. Officers found stolen goods in his possession, linking him directly to the crime.

A blood test revealed his alcohol level exceeded 2.7 per mille at the time of arrest. The damage caused by the forced entry is estimated at around €4,000. Following his detention, the Nuremberg-Fürth Public Prosecutor’s Office requested remand custody.

The suspect will now appear before an investigating judge at Nuremberg District Court. The hearing will determine whether he remains in custody while the case proceeds. The suspect faces charges related to burglary, theft, and possible intoxication offences. If remand custody is granted, he will stay in detention until further legal proceedings. The recovered items will be returned, and the shop’s damages will be assessed for potential compensation.
