Drunk man attacks federal police officer near Güstrow railway tracks
A federal police officer was attacked on Thursday afternoon while on duty near the railway line between Güstrow and Priemerburg. The incident began when the officer approached a man found lying asleep between the tracks in an intoxicated state.
The confrontation escalated when the 37-year-old German citizen, with a blood alcohol level of 2.45 per mille, became aggressive. He physically assaulted the officer, leaving them with abrasions and bruises. During the subsequent transport to Rostock, the man also spat at one of the officers.
Following the attack, authorities took the assailant into custody after consulting with the Rostock public prosecutor's office and district court. The Rostock Federal Police Inspectorate has since initiated criminal proceedings against him for assault, resisting law enforcement, and causing bodily harm. The disruption led to significant delays, totaling 326 minutes across 18 trains. Two services also faced partial cancellations as a result of the incident.
The assailant remains in custody while investigations continue. Train services have since resumed normal operation, though the incident highlights the risks officers face during routine patrols. No further details on similar cases in the region over the past year have been documented.
