Eisenach's €1B 'Blue Future' Tech Park Aims to Revitalize Local Economy
Report by Martin Veltum
A planned billion-euro investment north of Stockhausen near Eisenach has sparked debate while also opening up new economic opportunities for the region. A high-tech business park featuring a data center is set to be built on an 86-hectare site.
Eisenach's Lord Mayor, Christoph Ihling (CDU), recently briefed attendees on the project during an economic advisory council meeting in Geisa.
With this initiative, the city is responding to structural shifts in the automotive industry and focusing on future-oriented sectors such as digitalization, artificial intelligence, and data security. Across Germany, demand is rising for high-performance, independent data infrastructure.
The plan envisions a "Blue Future" technology park with a data center, complemented by compensatory measures including green spaces and infrastructure development. A private developer intends to invest around one billion euros, potentially creating up to 150 jobs.
The IHK Economic Advisory Board for Wartburgkreis also emphasized the importance of transformation, competitiveness, and reliable framework conditions.
Local stakeholders from business, politics, and administration view the project as an opportunity to future-proof the Wartburgkreis region and the Rhön Mountains.
The final decision on the project rests with Eisenach's city council, with a vote expected in the first half of 2026.
