Woman, 73, Killed After Being Struck by Tram in Tenever
Elderly woman dies after tragic tram collision in Bremen's Tenever district
A 73-year-old woman was struck and killed by a tram in the Tenever district on Monday afternoon. Emergency responders faced significant obstruction during recovery efforts, as around 250 onlookers gathered at the scene, their behavior severely hindering operations.
At approximately 1:50 p.m., the woman attempted to cross the tram tracks on Sankt-Gotthard-Straße as trams approached from both directions. She first collided with the side of one tram, fell, and was then struck head-on by the second. She sustained severe head injuries, and a paramedic at the scene could only confirm her death. Both tram drivers suffered shock following the incident.
Rubberneckers Face Potential Penalties
Sankt-Gotthard-Straße remained fully closed until about 5:45 p.m. due to recovery operations, causing traffic disruptions. Despite additional emergency personnel being deployed and privacy screens erected, many onlookers refused to leave even after repeated requests. Police recorded personal details and confiscated a mobile phone. Authorities are now reviewing whether to pursue further legal action—those who gawk at accident scenes risk fines or even up to two years in prison.
