Wolfsburg: 350-Kilogram Young Bull Escapes from Barn in Ilkerbruch
Escaped bull triggers chaos near German rail line and highway
A 350-kilogram young bull broke out of a barn in the Ilkerbruch area yesterday evening, prompting an immediate search operation due to its proximity to the K114 road and the high-speed ICE rail line.
Authorities temporarily closed the K114 in the evening, while trains proceeded with caution under "line of sight" restrictions, according to a police statement. Around 1 a.m., a police helicopter located the animal in a thicket. The bull appeared highly agitated and injured, officers reported.
Attempts to Capture the Animal Failed
Despite extensive efforts, authorities were unable to deploy specialists equipped with tranquilizer rifles. Approaching the animal was deemed impossible and too dangerous. Throughout the night, the owner monitored the bull in coordination with police.
By morning, the situation remained unchanged. After consulting with the owner, police confirmed that there was no alternative but to euthanize the animal for public safety reasons. Officers carried out the measure, the statement concluded.
