Man detained after allegedly stealing cash from parked truck in Rodgau
A 40-year-old man is in pretrial detention following an alleged theft from the cab of a truck in Rodgau. Prosecutors are investigating him on suspicion of robbery and bodily harm, according to a joint statement by the Darmstadt Public Prosecutor's Office and the Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters.
Initial findings suggest that on Saturday evening, the suspect took cash from a parked truck in the Behringstraße area, near the single-digit house numbers. Investigators describe the sum as substantial.
Struggle After Fleeing the Scene
The man is then believed to have fled on foot. The truck driver reportedly noticed the incident and immediately gave chase. A physical altercation ensued between the two men.
Police, alerted to the scene, provisionally arrested the 40-year-old shortly afterward. A breath alcohol test reportedly showed a reading of over 1.9 per mille, prompting authorities to order a blood sample.
Judge Issues Arrest Warrant
On Sunday morning, at the request of the prosecution, the suspect was brought before an investigating judge at the Offenbach District Court, who issued a warrant for pretrial detention.
The 40-year-old is now being held in a correctional facility.
