Teen Detained After Violent Robbery and Assault in Berlin's Mitte District
Incident No. 1602
In the early hours of last night, a young man was allegedly robbed and assaulted by a trio in Berlin's Mitte district. Around 2:15 a.m. on Rathausstraße, the three suspects reportedly first confronted the 20-year-old over his consumption of beer—prohibited for him on religious grounds—before knocking him to the ground. They then stole his phone and a bag containing personal documents, while also inflicting a cut to his forearm.
Two of the suspects fled on foot toward Museum Island. The third, a 14-year-old who was not in possession of the stolen items, was detained by the victim until police arrived, having been alerted by bystanders. Officers took the suspect into custody at a local station, recorded his details, informed him of his legal rights, and released him to a guardian.
Paramedics treated the injured 20-year-old at the scene. The case is now under investigation by a specialized unit of Police Directorate 5 (City).
