Freiburg's €60,000 projects tackle loneliness with community hubs and youth events
More Funding to Combat Loneliness: Two Freiburg Projects Receive State Support
Two initiatives in Freiburg will share €60,000 in funding from a statewide program in Baden-Württemberg, officials announced today.
The Diakonie Freiburg-Southwest association and the FABRIK Association for Craftsmanship, Culture, and Ecology will each receive €30,000. Both projects were selected as part of an ideas competition aimed at tackling loneliness, which drew 323 participating organizations.
The "WIR am Wochenende" (WE at the Weekend) project primarily targets young people in the Weingarten district, offering open community activities. Meanwhile, the "FABRIK Nachbarschaftskiosk" (FABRIK Neighborhood Kiosk) aims to create a local hub for social interaction and inclusion.
In total, the state is funding 35 projects with approximately €875,000, following a study that highlighted the urgent need to address loneliness in Baden-Württemberg.
Politicians involved in the initiative emphasize that the selected projects demonstrate the vital role of accessible, low-threshold opportunities for connection and social cohesion.
