Germany's 2027 budget debate sparks calls for fiscal transparency and clarity
In the debate over Germany's 2027 federal budget, the SPD-affiliated Business Forum of the Social Democratic Party (SPD-Wirtschaftsforum) is calling for greater clarity. In an interview with newspapers of the Funke Media Group (Thursday editions), the forum's president, Ines Zenke, acknowledged that the budget's key parameters demonstrate a commitment to the right goal of fiscal consolidation. However, she stressed that the truth is the measures to achieve this must now be spelled out in concrete terms as the process moves forward.
Zenke noted that businesses and citizens alike rightly expect transparency on how and where savings will be made. Every ministry, she said, will need to do its part. Moving forward, she added, the focus must be on delivering targeted measures to restore confidence in Germany as a business location.
