Pistorius accuses USA of harming NATO - Germany's defence chief slams Trump-era U.S. for undermining NATO unity

German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius has criticised the U.S. under former President Donald Trump for weakening NATO. His remarks came during a discussion on transatlantic security, where he highlighted concerns over American actions within the alliance. Pistorius pointed to Washington’s past claims on Greenland as an example of undermining NATO’s principles. He argued that questioning the territorial integrity of a member state damages the alliance’s unity.

The minister also stressed that excluding European allies from key security talks weakens cooperation. He insisted that NATO must serve Europe’s interests as much as America’s, given the shifting balance of global power. Despite his criticism, Pistorius acknowledged that NATO strengthens the U.S. by uniting it with over 30 nations. However, he warned that no single country—including America—can act alone in today’s world of rising great powers.

Pistorius’s comments reflect growing tensions over NATO’s future direction. His remarks underscore the need for stronger transatlantic coordination, especially as geopolitical challenges increase. The debate follows years of strained relations between the U.S. and its European partners.
