Mid-Campaign - Özdemir and Partner Plan Wedding - Green Party's Cem Özdemir to wed partner Flavia Zaka ahead of state election
Cem Özdemir, the Green Party’s lead candidate in Baden-Württemberg, is set to marry his partner Flavia Zaka in a private ceremony. The wedding will take place in February, just weeks before the state election. The couple confirmed their relationship publicly in August 2024. Özdemir and Zaka announced their separation from their previous partners in November 2023. Özdemir was previously married to journalist Pia Castro for 20 years, with whom he shares a daughter and a son. Since going public with their relationship, the couple has made several high-profile appearances together.
The ceremony will be a small, private event officiated by Boris Palmer, the mayor of Tübingen and a long-time family friend. A larger celebration with friends and family is planned for later in the year.
Manuel Hagel, Özdemir’s rival in the upcoming state election, extended his well-wishes to the couple. He expressed hopes for their happiness and a long, fulfilling life together. The wedding comes at a politically significant time, just before the Baden-Württemberg state election. Özdemir and Zaka’s marriage will be formalised in an intimate setting before a broader celebration later in 2025. The couple has already established a visible presence in public life since confirming their relationship.
