Halle's Cultural Hub Faces Closure Over Faulty Emergency Generator

A key cultural venue in Halle is facing urgent safety concerns after its emergency power generator failed. The Kardinal-Albrecht-Straße location, known for its role in the city’s independent arts scene, now risks losing its operating licence if repairs are not made soon. The issue was raised during a recent Cultural Committee meeting, where officials confirmed the defective generator poses a fire hazard. The theatre hall is the main area affected, while other parts of the venue remain operational.

City authorities are now examining whether fixing the existing generator is both practical and affordable. If repairs prove unviable, a replacement will be considered. Meanwhile, the Green Party faction has called for a full review of the building’s condition, stressing the need to address long-standing maintenance issues. To cover costs, the Greens suggest tapping into Halle’s 'Special Fund for Infrastructure and Climate Neutrality'. The aim is not only to resolve the immediate problem but also to create a mid-term plan for future upgrades.

Without a working backup generator, the venue cannot legally operate. Officials must decide soon whether to repair or replace the faulty system. The outcome will determine whether this cultural hub can continue serving Halle’s arts community.
