Halle's Dispute & Confidence Festival Sparks Dialogue on Democracy

The renowned debate format "Dispute & Confidence" by the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS is coming to Halle (Saale) as a two-day festival on June 12 and 13. Together with the Citizens for Citizens Foundation (Stiftung Bürger für Bürger), the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS will bring prominent guests—including Sandra Maischberger, Robin Alexander, Dagmar Rosenfeld, Jakob Springfeld, Jan Plewka and Band, as well as State Ministers Elisabeth Kaiser and Dr. Christiane Schenderlein—to the stage in Volkspark, alongside numerous initiatives and associations from eastern Germany.

The festival will also see the Youth Engagement Award presented and the first-ever "Fuck-up Night for Democracy" premiere in Saxony-Anhalt. A cultural policy panel hosted by the Federal Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes), titled "Dispute as an Art," will feature Rainer Robra, Head of the State Chancellery and Minister of Culture for Saxony-Anhalt, discussing the productive power of art and cultural education in fostering dialogue and navigating contentious debates with regional changemakers.

Prof. Manuel Hartung, Chairman of the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS, states: "Our democracy is under pressure. Now, more than ever, we need an active civil society. With the Future Festival, we aim to provide a platform for those who work day in and day out for democratic coexistence and social cohesion in Saxony-Anhalt. As the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS, we go where tensions and upheavals exist, bringing the pressing debates of our time to the forefront."

Olaf Ebert, Managing Director of the Citizens for Citizens Foundation, adds: "The Future Festival is a meeting place for everyone who wants to have a say and help shape our region. We bring together initiatives, associations, and committed individuals, spark debates, and inspire even more people to get involved. This strengthens the broad network for social cohesion and community in our region over the long term. After all, a strong civil society is the best protection for the open and diverse society we want to live in—here in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, and beyond."

In collaboration with many local and regional partners, the festival will offer dialogue formats, workshops, concerts, and performances, creating an open space for storytelling and listening, information and debate, experimentation and participation. The "Dispute & Confidence" Future Festival is supported by the German Foundation for Engagement and Volunteering (DSEE) and the Bertelsmann Foundation.
