Halle's May Day rally demands fairer jobs and stronger worker protections

Under the slogan "Our Jobs First, Then Your Profits," a demonstration and rally will mark Labor Day on May 1, 2026, in Halle (Saale). This year's May Day address will be delivered by Bodo Ramelow, Vice President of the German Bundestag, beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Market Square. A demonstration will kick off at 11 a.m., followed by live music starting at 2 p.m. Around the stage, unions, cultural and social partners, and DGB projects will have information booths.

"Secure and fair jobs are at the heart of our Labor Day 2026 campaign," says Andreas Dose, chair of the DGB Halle-Saalekreis district association. "Together with workers, we are taking to the streets and squares to demand stronger labor rights, better working and living conditions, more collective bargaining agreements and worker participation, robust social security, and greater social justice. We are showing a red card to attacks on labor rights and the welfare state."
