Based on preliminary findings from Hanover's traffic accident investigation unit, a 36-year-old woman from Lehrte was driving her Volkswagen Golf Plus on the B 443 toward Sehnde at around 2:05 p.m. Her 18-month-old son was seated in a child seat in the back.

The driver began overtaking a truck traveling in the same direction. At that moment, a car was approaching from the opposite lane, followed by a 24-year-old woman from Sehnde in her Volkswagen Golf.

The overtaking maneuver was not yet complete when the oncoming driver swerved onto the right shoulder to avoid a collision with the Golf Plus. The 24-year-old behind him was unable to react in time.

The two vehicles collided head-on in their lane. The truck that had been overtaken continued on its way.

Police currently have no information about the type of vehicle or whether it was towing a trailer. All three occupants of the cars involved were injured and taken to hospitals by ambulance for medical treatment.

Authorities estimate the property damage to both vehicles at approximately €10,000. The B 443 remained completely closed until about 7:20 p.m. for rescue operations and accident investigation.
