On Thursday between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., Heidelberg's traffic police, in cooperation with the Heidelberg Waterways and Shipping Police Directorate, conducted a focused inspection of commercial freight transport in Vangerowstraße, targeting vehicles with a permissible gross weight of up to 3.5 tons. Eight officers were deployed for the operation. During the checks, specialists examined a total of 15 vehicles and their drivers, with 10 found to be in violation—resulting in an infringement rate of approximately 66%.
Among the violations, four drivers had failed to comply with mandatory rest periods or had exceeded the maximum daily working hours. Additional offenses identified included:
- Four breaches of the Road Traffic Act (inadequate cargo securing, exceeding permissible gross weight)
- One violation of waste management regulations (missing waste transport labeling)
- Three drivers were prohibited from continuing their journey until the identified defects were rectified.
The results underscore the critical importance of such enforcement actions in enhancing road safety in public traffic areas. Further targeted operations with the same objectives are already in the planning stages.
