Honduran Man Arrested in Texas After Violent NYC Attack and Flight Attempt
A 32-year-old Honduran man has been arrested in Texas after being accused of a violent attack in New York. Jose Ignacio Bonilla-Garcia was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Fugitive Task Force in Fort Bend County. Bonilla-Garcia stands accused of beating and raping a man in New York. Authorities claim he then attempted to flee to Mexico before his arrest.
The suspect has a history of illegal entries into the U.S., crossing the border at least four times. He was expelled three times in 2020 under Title 42, though it remains unclear when or where his fourth entry occurred. Gabriel Martinez, acting field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Houston, called the case one of the most serious criminal offences he has encountered.
Bonilla-Garcia is now in custody awaiting further legal proceedings. The investigation into his alleged crimes and immigration history continues. Authorities have not yet released additional details on the timeline of his border crossings.
