How Tom Chalmers reshaped publishing with a decade of bold ventures

Tom Chalmers has built a career in publishing by launching and growing multiple companies over the past two decades. Starting at just 25, he founded Legend Press, a move that marked the beginning of a string of ventures in the industry. His work has earned recognition, including a prestigious global award for young professionals.

Chalmers entered publishing in 2005 when he established Legend Press. Five years later, he launched New Generation Publishing, a self-publishing company aimed at independent authors. In 2012, he created IPR License, a platform designed to simplify rights licensing worldwide. The business secured funding twice before being sold in 2016.

His next project was Legend Business, a publisher specialising in business books. Alongside this, he founded Write-Connections, which provides workshops and support for writers. In 2018, his achievements were recognised with the Global Outstanding Young Person Award at the Big Ben Awards. Expansion continued as Legend Times, where Chalmers serves as Managing Director, acquired Paperbooks Publishing. The following year, the company took over the University of Buckingham Press, further broadening its reach in academic and trade publishing.

Today, Chalmers oversees a portfolio of publishing businesses, from self-publishing to rights management and academic presses. His ventures have shaped opportunities for authors, publishers, and industry professionals. The growth of Legend Times reflects his long-term influence in the sector.
