Kazakhstan closes decade-old murder case with final 17-year sentence
A decade-long murder investigation has finally ended in Kazakhstan’s Abai Region. The case involved a brutal 2015 killing in Russia, where a car owner was lured, attacked, and left to die. The Abai Regional Court has now sentenced the last suspect to 17 years in prison for murder and armed robbery. The crime took place in 2015 when four individuals tricked a car owner before violently assaulting him. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds and was run over by the attackers, who then stole his vehicle and escaped. Three accomplices had already faced justice—one in Russia and two in East Kazakhstan Region—before the final suspect was caught.
Senior Investigator Ajar Rollanovna Sartova led the probe, piecing together evidence through witness statements, message analysis, and surveillance footage. After years of work, all members of the criminal group were identified and prosecuted. The last suspect, who had been on an international wanted list, was finally arrested in Almaty in 2024. The Abai Regional Police Department has reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing serious crimes, even when they cross borders or stretch beyond legal time limits.
The final conviction brings closure to a case that spanned nearly ten years. The last defendant received a 17-year prison term for their role in the murder and robbery. Authorities have confirmed that all those responsible are now behind bars.
