Kazakhstan Joins Abraham Accords in Historic US-Backed Expansion

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has met with Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, marking a significant step in the expansion of the Abraham Accords. This meeting signals the first new country to join the agreements since 2020, and the US believes it's just the beginning.

The Abraham Accords, a major foreign policy achievement of the Donald Trump administration, has seen a lull in new signatories since its inception in 2020. However, Rubio's meeting with Tokayev hints at a revival. The US special envoy, Steve Witkoff, had previously teased this development during a Miami conference. The Donald Trump administration is optimistic, with the former president predicting Saudi Arabia's joining by year-end.

Kazakhstan, ready for 'constructive dialogue', is expected to formally join the Accords on Thursday evening, according to US and Israeli officials. This move is seen as a boost for the normalization of relations between Israel and Arab nations, with the US driving the expansion efforts.

Kazakhstan's impending addition to the Abraham Accords is a notable development, signaling a potential resurgence in the expansion of these historic agreements. The US, under the Donald Trump administration's influence, continues to push for further normalization between Israel and Arab nations, with Saudi Arabia's potential involvement still on the horizon.
