Kazakhstan, Morocco Sign Prisoner Transfer Pact for Rehabilitation

Kazakhstan and Morocco have inked a prisoner transfer agreement. The pact aims to facilitate cooperation, protect prisoners' rights, aid rehabilitation, and support reintegration into society.

The agreement, similar to one Kazakhstan signed with Brazil, allows convicts to serve sentences in either country. Those transferred will abide by Kazakh law, with sentences adjusted if necessary. The transfer process is not automatic; authorities can refuse if the crime is political or the receiving country imposes the death penalty.

Kazakhstan is exploring similar agreements with other nations. While no specific countries are mentioned besides Morocco and Vietnam, the Prosecutor General's Office will oversee implementation using annual state budget funds.

The Kazakhstan-Morocco prisoner transfer agreement, ratified by senators, will enhance bilateral cooperation. It allows convicts to serve sentences in either country, promoting rehabilitation and reintegration. The Prosecutor General's Office will oversee implementation using state funds.
