Kazakhstan’s education system rocked by corruption and mismanagement scandals
The Supreme Audit Chamber of Kazakhstan has uncovered significant violations in the country's education system. The audit, conducted in February 2025, revealed issues in teacher training, employment, methodological support, and state regulation. As a result, disciplinary actions have been taken against officials from the Ministry of Education, university rectors, and faculty members.
The chamber's investigation found problems in scientific research, including fraudulent activities and misappropriation of funds. These findings were referred to law enforcement authorities for further evaluation and prosecution. The chamber has also instructed heads of authorized agencies to consider holding officials accountable for legal violations.
Disciplinary measures were implemented against staff members of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center Daryn. Additionally, deputy chairs of the Ministry of Education’s committees, rectors, vice rectors, deans, and department heads faced disciplinary action. The chamber's directives and recommendations are being implemented to address these issues and improve the education system.
The audit has highlighted the need for stricter regulation and accountability in Kazakhstan's education system. Officials are now working to address the identified violations and ensure compliance with legal standards. The Supreme Audit Chamber will continue to monitor the situation and provide further guidance as necessary.
