Koblenz soars 31 places in Germany's 2025 city rankings

Koblenz has emerged as one of Germany’s fastest-rising cities in the 2025 rankings. The city climbed 31 places, jumping from 54th to 23rd in just one year. Potsdam, however, secured the top position in the new Infrastructure Index. Koblenz shows strong performance in several areas. It ranks 27th in the Infrastructure Index, excelling in public transit stop density at 3rd place and the number of universities at 4th. Its business tax rates are also low, placing 7th nationwide, while its commuter numbers rank 8th.

Over the past five years, the city has seen remarkable growth. Overnight tourist stays have rebounded strongly, now ranking fourth in Germany. Crime clearance rates have also improved, reaching 7th place. In the Dynamics category, Koblenz surged 31 places, reflecting its rapid development.

Despite these gains, challenges remain. The city ranks 70th—second-to-last—in the condition of bridges on federal highways. Its Level Ranking stands at a steady 34th place. Koblenz has developed more positively than almost any other major German city in recent years. Its sharp rise in the rankings highlights progress in infrastructure, tourism, and safety. Yet, the poor state of its federal highway bridges shows work is still needed.
