Komi Republic reports 2025 progress in infrastructure and social welfare

Despite the challenging economic climate and sanctions pressure on the region, the government's decisions remain firmly focused on addressing the needs of residents and fulfilling the objectives set by Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was stated by Alexander Makarenko, Speaker of the State Council of the Komi Republic, as he commented on the regional government's 2025 performance report, presented at the session by Prime Minister Dmitry Bratynenko.

The cabinet's work received positive feedback from the majority of lawmakers.

In his remarks, Makarenko highlighted three key achievements of 2025.

Fulfillment of social commitments. Despite external challenges, the budget has maintained its social focus. The republic has met all its obligations, largely thanks to substantial federal support. Additionally, Komi has demonstrated one of the strongest performances in recent years in rankings for the implementation of national projects.

Large-scale infrastructure upgrades. The region has shifted from piecemeal problem-solving to systemic modernization. Over the past year alone, more than 220 kilometers of roads have been repaired, while schools, hospitals, and housing and utilities facilities are being renovated.

Targeted support and social equity. In 2025, assistance was strengthened for those most in need: eligibility for the regional family capital program was expanded for large families, and comprehensive support was provided to participants in the special military operation and their relatives.

At the same time, the parliamentary speaker drew the government's attention to the challenges ahead. "Today, the republic urgently needs new drivers of growth—and they must lie outside the traditional raw materials sector," Makarenko emphasized. "Our priority is to create the most favorable conditions for the development of small and medium-sized businesses and to attract investment into non-resource projects. Diversification will ensure the long-term stability of the regional economy."

Concluding his remarks, the Speaker of the Komi State Council summarized: "This report reflects the consolidated efforts of the legislative body, the government, and local authorities. Only by continuing to unite our strengths—and by building on the strategic goals set by the President of Russia—can we restore the Komi Republic's former prominence and secure a dignified quality of life for every resident."
