Kyiv Polytechnic Teams Advance to Green Chemistry Competition Finals

Two teams from Kyiv Polytechnic have reached the finals of an international competition focused on green chemistry and sustainable manufacturing. The project, backed by Yale University and the United Nations, offers finalists a chance to refine their ideas over 12 weeks of intensive training and mentorship.

The initiative is a collaboration between the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, Yale’s Centre for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, and the Global Environment Facility. In Ukraine, the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre leads the project, with support from the Sikorsky Challenge Ukraine Innovation Ecosystem.

Over the next 12 weeks, participants will attend training sessions, lectures, and workshops. They will also receive face-to-face consultations, access to microgrants, and visits to leading companies. Direct engagement with industrial partners forms a key part of the programme. The finalists include teams from the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management, as well as the Faculty of Automation, Industrial Engineering and Ecology. At the end of the programme, a Demo Day will allow them to present their projects to potential investors. Winners will gain the opportunity to showcase their work internationally under Yale University’s name. They will also secure automatic entry into the 2026 Sikorsky Challenge International Festival of Innovation Projects.

The competition aims to drive progress in green chemistry and sustainable production. Successful teams will receive recognition, funding opportunities, and a platform to present their solutions to a global audience. The project’s outcomes could influence future developments in eco-friendly manufacturing.
