Lünen's Workshop Empowers Foster Parents and Guardians with Key Skills
Volunteer Guardians and Foster Parents in Lünen Deepen Expertise in Youth Welfare System
On Wednesday, April 22, volunteer guardians and foster parents in Lünen expanded their knowledge of Germany's youth welfare system as part of an ongoing professional development series. Participants explored the legal and educational foundations essential for daily life with children and adolescents.
The training focused on how support planning is coordinated within the administration, as well as the rights of children and their biological parents regarding visitation and contact. A significant portion of the session was dedicated to life story work—helping young people solidify their identity despite challenging early circumstances. Experts from the Erziehungshilfen Werne children's home (KEW gGmbH) led the workshop, offering practical insights into kinship care.
Navigating Complex Situations with Confidence
Beyond building professional skills, the series aims to foster peer exchange. Many foster parents also take on legal guardianship for their charges—a role that carries substantial responsibility. These training sessions provide the necessary confidence to act appropriately in difficult situations.
City Plans to Expand Program
Looking ahead, the city of Lünen intends to grow the initiative to recruit more citizens for these vital volunteer roles.
