Lyonel-Feininger-Gymnasium names Anja Lehmann as new headteacher for 2026
Lyonel-Feininger-Gymnasium in Halle (Saale) will welcome a new headteacher in April 2026. Anja Lehmann, a long-serving educator at the school, has been appointed to the role. She takes over from Jan Riedel, who left last year after his promotion to Minister of Education for Saxony-Anhalt. Anja Lehmann first joined the school in 2015 as part of its founding team. A qualified secondary school teacher, she specialises in mathematics and physics. Her career in Saxony-Anhalt's education system began even earlier, in August 2001.
By 2017, Lehmann had taken on the role of deputy headteacher at Lyonel-Feininger-Gymnasium. She stepped in as acting headteacher after Jan Riedel's departure on June 29, 2025. Riedel, who helped establish the school in 2015, left following his appointment to a ministerial position. Her official appointment as headteacher will begin on April 8, 2026. No details on major pedagogical changes at the school since its founding have been reported.
Lehmann's promotion marks a continuation of leadership from within the school's original team. She brings over two decades of teaching experience to the position. The transition follows Riedel's move into regional government last summer.
