Manuel Hagel leads CDU into Baden-Württemberg's 2025 election with unity call
Manuel Hagel is the CDU’s top candidate for Baden-Württemberg’s state election on 8 March. He has spoken out against divisive debates within the party and criticised recent policy proposals. Hagel warned against reckless discussions that could harm the CDU’s unity. He described some remarks as thoughtless and alienating, stating they undermine efforts for real reform.
He dismissed suggestions from the Mittelstandsunion and the Economic Council as unconstructive. Proposals like limiting part-time work or privatising dental care costs were labelled as 'complete nonsense'.
Hagel also affirmed the CDU’s identity as 'the party for workers'. He insisted it represents both employees and employers, adding that the Union holds the greatest economic expertise. The candidate has made his position clear ahead of the vote. His focus remains on uniting the party and rejecting policies he deems impractical. The election will take place in March next year.
