Maria Butina eyes State Duma seat to represent Komi Republic
Maria Butina intends to represent the interests of the Republic of Komi at the federal level, responding to an offer from municipal leaders in the region.
The decision to submit her candidacy followed a meeting held on April 22 at the State Duma. During the discussion, heads of districts and cities in the Republic of Komi spoke with Butina about ways to address systemic issues in their territories that require intervention and support from the federal government.
Following the meeting, local officials proposed that Butina become "the voice of Komi" in Moscow to advocate for the northern region and its residents.
"We see you as someone who can truly be the voice of Komi in Moscow. And we want that voice to be heard loud and clear. We invite you to take part in the party's preliminary internal voting," said Uhta Mayor Marina Metelyova during the meeting.
The preliminary voting process in United Russia is mandatory for all candidates planning to run under the party's banner in the State Duma elections. It allows residents of the regions to independently select the most worthy representatives before the official campaign begins.
To register as a candidate, applicants must visit the voting website pg.er.ru, click the "Become a Candidate" tab, and complete the questionnaire.
This year, the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF) has adopted United Russia's approach of involving the public in the preliminary selection of candidates. The KPRF will hold such a procedure for the first time. Other political parties, according to preliminary data, will base their candidate nominations on the opinions of party members.
