Annie Famose Transforms a Paris Rooftop Into an Alpine Village

An alpine village has appeared on the rooftop of Paris’s Hôtel Sax, complete with mountain views and gourmet dishes. The project is the work of Annie Famose, a former Olympic skier turned business leader. Her latest venture brings a taste of the Alps to the heart of the city, with the Eiffel Tower standing tall in the background.

Famose’s career spans sports, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. Once a world champion on the slopes, she now oversees a global empire of restaurants, hotels, and ski rental shops. Her latest creation lets guests enjoy black truffle fondue while surrounded by an alpine setting.

Annie Famose first made her name in skiing. She won a world slalom title in 1966 and claimed two Olympic medals at Grenoble 1968. After retiring from competition, she shifted her focus to business.

In 1994, she founded Skiset, a ski and snowboard rental company. By 2025, it had grown into the world’s largest network, with 1,300 stores across over 400 resorts. The company remains a key part of her family-run group, which now generates €240 million in annual revenue. Beyond sports, Famose expanded into hospitality. The Annie Famose Group today owns 43 restaurants, 30 brands, and four hotels across ten global destinations. The family retains a 62.6% stake in the business, which splits its earnings between sports (€110 million) and hospitality (€130 million). Her latest project transforms the Hôtel Sax rooftop into an alpine escape. Guests can dine on morel-studded raclette and fondue while taking in views of Paris. The setting mimics a mountain village, with the Eiffel Tower visible in the distance like a snowy peak. Famose also served on Olympique Lyonnais’s board for twelve years until 2022. Jean-Michel Aulas, the club’s former president, has called her a model of reinvention and a formidable businesswoman. Her ability to blend sports, luxury, and innovation continues to shape her ventures.

The alpine rooftop at Hôtel Sax is now open, offering a unique dining experience in Paris. Famose’s business empire spans ski resorts, restaurants, and hotels, all under family control. With revenues of €240 million, her group remains a major player in both sports and hospitality. The project reflects her lifelong connection to the mountains—now brought to the city.
