Matthias Nester retires after 42 years shaping Sparkasse Koblenz's legacy

Matthias Nester has stepped down as CEO of Sparkasse Koblenz after a long and influential career in banking. His final day in office marked the end of a 42-year journey that began as a trainee in 1982. Colleagues, politicians, and business leaders gathered to honour his contributions at an emotional farewell event.

Nester first entered banking in 1982 as a trainee at Sparkasse Roth-Schwabach. Over the decades, he climbed the ranks, taking on various management positions before joining the executive board in 2002. His leadership spanned 30 years within the Sparkasse group.

In 2011, he moved to Koblenz and took full charge of Sparkasse Koblenz that September. His tenure as CEO officially concluded on April 30, closing a chapter of steady guidance and community engagement. At the farewell ceremony, representatives from politics and business thanked Nester for his dedication, not just to the bank but also to local social initiatives. The event highlighted his lasting impact on both the institution and the region. With Nester’s departure, Jörg Perscheid, an existing board member, will now lead as CEO. Christoph Stibbe will also join the executive team, ensuring a smooth transition and continued stability for the bank.

Nester leaves behind a legacy of four decades in banking, marked by leadership and a commitment to social responsibility. His successor, Jörg Perscheid, takes over at a time when the bank aims to maintain its strong position. The changes in leadership reflect both an end and a new beginning for Sparkasse Koblenz.
