Mecklenburg-Vorpommern denies political ties in police promotion ahead of director position opening

Interior Minister Christian Pegel has clarified that the recent promotion of a police officer in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was not linked to the upcoming director position advertisement of the State Office for Central Tasks and Technology of Police, Fire and Disaster Protection (LBPK). The minister was not involved in the decision-making process. The promotion was instigated by the State Secretary and not influenced by Minister Pegel. The acting director for the past three years is to be given a fair chance to apply for the LBPK director position, as per case law of the administrative courts. This requires the acting representative to participate in the selection process for long-term vacancies. The minister had urged the earliest possible restart of the LBPK director position advertisement before the summer break. The Interior Minister has made it clear that the recent promotion was unrelated to the LBPK director position advertisement. The acting director will be given a fair opportunity to apply, as dictated by administrative court case law.
