Mexico's 2025–2026 school calendar stays unchanged, easing family and business planning
The Mexican Ministry of Public Education (SEP) has confirmed that the 2025–2026 school year calendar will remain unchanged. Business leaders have welcomed the decision, highlighting its wide-ranging effects on families, local economies, and tourism sectors across the country.
Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, president of Concanaco-Servytur, stressed the importance of stability in planning for households and businesses alike.
The confederation had previously urged authorities to consider the broader consequences of any potential changes. De la Torre pointed out that a predictable school calendar allows families to organise holidays, childcare, and work schedules in advance. He also noted that local economies—particularly small businesses and tourism—rely on steady vacation periods to plan promotions and staffing.
Concanaco-Servytur called for ongoing dialogue between policymakers and regional stakeholders. The group emphasised that public decisions with national reach should reflect social sensitivity and awareness of regional differences. In response to the SEP’s announcement, the confederation expressed gratitude for recognising the nationwide impact of maintaining the current schedule. To further support orderly planning, the business organisation offered to work alongside authorities. Their proposed collaboration aims to strengthen formal consumption, boost domestic tourism, and provide stability for family-run enterprises during peak holiday seasons.
The SEP’s decision ensures continuity for the upcoming academic year. Businesses, particularly in tourism and retail, can now prepare for predictable demand during school breaks. Families, meanwhile, retain the ability to plan vacations and expenses without last-minute adjustments.
